Understand server-side order creation, payment verification, webhooks, and test-mode checks in Laravel.
1. Create an order on the server
Use server-side credentials stored outside source control to create an order for the validated amount and currency. Return only the public checkout information needed by the browser.
2. Verify the payment result
Never treat a browser callback as proof of payment. Verify the provider signature on the server, validate the order and amount against your records, and store payment state with an idempotent update.
3. Process webhooks safely
Verify webhook signatures using the raw request body, handle duplicate deliveries, and reconcile events against stored orders. Record failures for investigation without logging secret keys or sensitive payment data.
4. Test before launch
Exercise success, failure, cancellation, duplicate webhook, and refund scenarios in the provider's test environment. Review the provider's current documentation and account requirements before enabling live payments.
